While it‘s great for blogging, it‘s also the perfect platform for those creating their first website because it‘s so easy to setup and you don‘t need any costly software or any knowledge of html and the like.

Unfortunately though, with the huge number of WordPress sites now dominating the web, hackers now have a large “playground” to test their skills.
Repairing hacked sites can be very time-consuming and also lead to significant downtime and / or data loss. Databases can also be corrupted and you can even lose search engine ranking if your site is indexed before you’ve managed to repair the damage. Simple Steps You Can Take Right Now To Start Securing Your WordPress Sites

The great thing about WordPress is, that because it‘s so immensely popular, developers are extremely quick to react when a security flaw is uncovered. That means that new updates are regularly available and that in itself makes it more difficult for hackers.

The problem though, for many people, is that they do not keep their WordPress sites updated. Often they have too many WordPress powered sites and they just forget to keep them updated. Or they have too many and they just can‘t find the time to update them all. And of course, there are those who are simply too lazy to do it—even though it doesn’t take long to do.

So, the simplest step you can take today to ensure that your WordPress sites have a decent level of protection from hackers, is to keep them updated with the latest version of WordPress.

The next thing you can do very easily is make sure you use a very stong password to access your WordPress dashboard. I know this sounds really basic but you‘d be surprised how many people will use a simple word that can be found in the dictionary! Hackers will be able to “guess” your password if it‘s too basic so make it as difficult as you possibly can. I recommend a mix of numbers, letters and even special characters. If you are wanting to create a really secure random password, make it 10 characters or more. You can use the free tool on this site if you‘re stuck for ideas! If you want to check how secure your password is then you can check it via this free resource on the Microsoft website.

One other thing to remember (since we‘re on the subject of passwords) is also to make sure that your web hosting account itself has a strong username and password combination!

Another simple thing you can do is to make sure that you don’t use “admin” as your username for accessing your blog. Try using something else. This again will make your username and password combination very difficult for hackers to hack. If you already have a user setup called “admin” then you can simply create a new user under another username and give them administrator privileges, test it to make sure you can access your WordPress dashboard ok with it and that you have full administrative access and then delete the existing “admin” username!

I’ve seen a lot of talk recently about several well-known marketers having their Paypal accounts frozen for various reasons. These are certainly NOT new issues either – such things have been happening for years. Whilst I don’t know all the “ins and outs” of each case, I know enough about doing business online to say that as marketers we should always have a backup plan. If you take nothing else away from this blog post, please remember that!

I certainly don’t ever recommend “putting all your eggs in the one basket” – especially if it’s your livelihood at stake. And that includes using Paypal as your only source of payment option or becoming solely reliant on ANY one payment option.

I’m certainly looking hard right now at how I can become less reliant on any one payment method and I wrote this post so that I could hear your thoughts.

I should also make it clear here that I’m NOT here to bash Paypal but simply to offer a platform where we can share trustworthy alternatives for those who no longer have a Paypal account, can’t accept Paypal due to where they live or simply do not trust them.

It’s no big secret that there are a lot of people out there that HATE Paypal. You only have to jump into the WarriorForum or any other respected forum and you’ll hear the horror stories. There are whole sites dedicated to exposing some of the Paypal horror stories… some which of course are not entirely accurate or present a slightly biased view.

It would be fair to say that many of those who have had their accounts suspended or frozen have in fact broken one of Paypal’s many Terms and Conditions. The problem is though that you can talk to two different reps at Paypal and get two completely different answers – so it’s hard to know what IS acceptable and what ISN’T until it’s too late.

Having said all of that, there are far more people that actually LOVE them than HATE them!

That’s what makes it tough for us as marketers – because even when we offer alternatives, 90% or more of our customers choose to pay via Paypal. I’ve tested this in my own businesses and well over 90% of my customers pay via Paypal.

So…. I wanted to hear your opinion on a few things…

AS A VENDOR (SELLER) what are the alternatives? What’s your fallback plan if anything was to happen to YOUR Paypal account?

There is a lot of talk and speculation amongst the Internet Marketing community (rightly or wrongly) that Alertpay may become the next big payment option for marketers. They operate in a similar fashion to Paypal but appear to be a little more “flexible” in their Terms and Conditions.

And finally…. if you use Paypal regularly….

As marketers, we need to share our ideas and solutions to problems which arise from time to time. We need to be prepared for any eventualities – even if they seem unlikely. That’s why I want us to start some discussion about these things now so that we can take steps to reduce the risk.

Welcome to my “quick and dirty” guide on proper on-page SEO. Before we get started it should be stated that there are MANY differing opinions when it comes to on-page SEO. Some people will say one thing matters while a different group will completely disagree and there is really nothing that can be done about this.

The simple fact of the matter is that no one really knows for sure what goes into the Google algorithm so you end up with widely differing opinions as to what really matters to the Google bot.

The approach I take in this article is one of moderation – I don’t recommend taking on-page SEO to the extreme like some, but I don’t recommend not worrying about it at all and just relying on off-page SEO like others!

First and Foremost – META and TITLE Tags

META and TITLE Tags are HTML tags used to tell the search engines what your website is all about. Basically there are 3 main tags you should be worried about:

• <meta description=””> – This is simply a short description of your website and is also what Google uses to display on its results pages. You should try and have your keyword once in this description.
• <meta keywords=””> – Keywords that are relevant to your website, I recommend having your main keyword along with a few long tail keywords that are related to your website.
• <title> – This is what is displayed as the link to your site on Googles results page. This should include your keyword along with a catchy title that is designed to get users to click on your page instead of another.

There are many differing opinions on the importance of META tags and it’s very true that they don’t hold a lot of weight in terms of pure ranking value. But they will help to ensure that Google knows exactly what your page is about and you should definitely be using them on every page you create!

Keyword Density – The 1000 Pound Gorilla When It Comes to On-Page SEO!

While almost every expert will agree that proper use of tags is a good thing for any site, the topic of keyword density is enough to make otherwise civilized individuals start acting like 5 year olds on various internet marketing forums!

Keyword density is simply how many times your keyword is used throughout your meta tags, title and entire article body.

At one point back in the early days of search engines keyword density was VERY important which is why I think so many people still cling to it so dearly. Savvy marketers found out that by “stuffing” their keyword many times into an article they could rank better for that term. The more times they put the keyword in – the better they ranked.

Of course this lead to huge problems with people stuffing keywords at the end of documents etc… and the search engines soon got wise to this and started to devalue keyword density in their ranking algorithms. This is why we now have off-page SEO as the dominant ranking factor.

Despite this however, many ‘gurus’ will still tell you to make sure that your article contains at least a 3% keyword density in the body.

To put it plainly, this means that a 500 word article will end up with FIFTEEN instances of the keyword. To put it succinctly, this means that the article will read like absolute CRAP!

Unnaturally putting instances of a keyword or phrase into your writing purely for the sake of SEO will just make your articles read poorly and turn your readers off, however not having it at all will make it harder to rank your article for the phrase…

So where is the middle ground? For a 500 word article make sure that:

• Your keyword/phrase is in the first sentence
• Your keyword/phrase occurs naturally 2-3 times throughout the article
• Use a few long-tail keywords as well if you can make them look/sound natural
• Try and use the keyword/phrase in the last paragraph or even better – the last sentence

Now before you jump up from your keyboard screaming, WHERE IS THE PROOF?!?

There really isn’t any other than this is what I’ve used time and time again to rank my articles and it works for me. Off-page SEO (link-building) is the dominant factor when it comes to ranking anyways so provided you use my method and employ proper off-page SEO I think you’ll have no problems ranking those articles!

Hey there and welcome to our guide on how to do proper keyword research.

Keyword research should be treated as one of if not the most important aspect of your online business. Whether you’re building Amazon sites, Adsense sites, off-line business sites etc… A proper foundation based on good keyword research will be the difference between success and failure.

The Google Keyword Tool

First of all make sure that you have a gmail account and then do a search for the Google keyword tool. It can also be found here – https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Make sure that you are signed into your account as this will allow the tool to return up to 800 results as opposed to 150 when you aren’t signed in.

Type in your first query and hit ‘SEARCH’ – You will notice that there are a whole bunch of results returned. First, make sure that you select [exact] from the left hand side and deselect Broad, this will ensure that you are receiving accurate results.

Second, click on the Global tab and this will sort the volume from highest to lowest. If you are new to keyword research and ranking websites then you’ll want to start looking at keywords that are around 5000 searches per month and lower.

Assessing Competition and Determining Value

This is the most important part of this guide. Just because you find a great keyword that has around 5000 searches per month does NOT mean that you should start building a website around this keyword.

We need to look at what other websites are currently ranking for this keyword and decide if it is something that we can realistically rank for within a few months.

For this section download the SEO Quake plugin, it is available for either Chrome or Firefox. After it is downloaded and configured go back to your Keyword tool and click on the keyword you want to check out. This will open up a Google search for the keyword in a new tab in your browser.

You should see that the SEO Quake has added a section below each search result. The ones we are most concerned with are PR, and Links. We also want to check to see how well each result is optimized for the keyword. Check each result in the following order:

• Is the keyword contained in the title? Yes/No
• Is the keyword contained in the description? Yes/No
• What is the PR (Pagerank)?
• How many links?

While there is no set formula for this we are basically trying to find keywords that have as many sites in the top 10 that AREN’T targeting the keyphrase in their title/description. Have low PR (under 3) and have a low number of links (usually under 100).

Some basic guidelines to stick by are:

• If the keyword has 2 or more sites with a PR 3 or higher that also have the keyword in the Title and Description – skip it!
• If the keyword has 6 or more sites that are both optimized for the keyword in the Title and Description – skip it!
• If the top 5 results all have over 500 links – skip it!

While this is by no means a comprehensive guide (there have been entire books written on this subject!) this should give you a basic idea of what to start looking for when doing your keyword research.
